In the world of Mixed Martial Arts, it's no secret anything can happen. But usually that phrase refers to what can happen once the cage doors are locked and the bell sounds to start the fight. Win or lose, California Mixed Martial Arts fighters show up to win and put on exciting fights.
This past weekend, CMMA had 7 fights scheduled between LFA, UNF, and Pancrase but things went awry before the events started. One opponent went backed out with an injury and 3 others backed out less than 24 hours before the events took place. This left 4 CMMA fighters without fights who had prepared tirelessly for their bouts. They made weight and showed up like true professionals but unfortunately the fans were without amazing fights.
With 4 bouts scrapped, that left 3 more fights scheduled; 2 at UNF in Los Angeles and 1 at Pacrase in Japan. Again, the professionalism and dedication showed. The fighters who's fights were scrapped immediately switched to cheering on and keeping their teammates ready. And it showed!
Stone LaVelle wins by decision and retains his UNF and California State Titles
Rosario Romero wins his professional MMA debut by unanimous decision
Rafael Barbosa wins at Pancrase in Japan with a second round submission
The way these fighters put in the work in the gym, they are always prepared. CMMA has done this before earlier this year and has done it again with an undefeated weekend on the MMA scene.
Outside of the cage, some CMMA students also competed at the NABJJF Los Angeles Open and also had some great successes. Coming home with 2 gold medals and 2 silver medals, it's another fine example of hard work paying off in the gym.
